Kin Kin Beads showcases handmade glass beads and jewellery created by Rob Fleming. Rob makes glass beads using Venetian glass rods and the same techniques as those developed over centuries by the lampworker artisans of Murano in Venice, Italy.
Lampworked beads are made by melting glass in a flame and working it on a steel rod to form a bead. Each bead is individually made and then annealed in a kiln to strengthen it.
Many of Rob’s designs are based on the colours and patterns in the natural landscapes of the upper Noosa River, Cooloola National Park and the Great Sandy Straits. The waters, sea-life, sands and vegetation provide the palette, forms and textures – creating the bead is the challenge.
Most of the beads and jewellery on this website are one of a kind and the designs are very unlikely to be found elsewhere. With care, these become family heirlooms.
Rob also makes traditional Venetian style encased gold beads and jewellery using 23 carat gold leaf and white gold leaf. All of the jewellery is made using quality findings (clasps, hooks, accent beads, etc) of sterling silver, rolled gold or gold filled.
